[4] – Doring Bay & Strandfontein

From Lambert’s Bay to Doring (“thorn”) Bay the road hugs the shore line.IMG_0582_1

This village has a Lobster Processing Plant.

Whales can be viewed in season and a attractive Lighthouse serves as a beacon for fisherman.IMG_0586_1

Before the town was established, the bay was used as an anchorage on the sea trading route.  Provisions that were off loaded from the boats was transported to Van Rhyn’s dorp by Camels.IMG_0583_1

The Roman Catholic Church was founded by the well known Father Klein.

 

 

8 km further North is Strandfontein.  This Holiday Village is situated in the Olifants River Valley of the Cape West Coast.IMG_2790_1

Strandfontein  has become one of the main holiday resorts in South Africa.

The Southern Right Whales swim close to the shore in the protective bay during the calving season.  Unspoiled white sandy beaches, a tidal pool, Mediterranean climate with hot & dry summers and moderate winters.  An Ideal Holiday Destination.
